The Story
I've always had a passion for beautiful houses. Even as a schoolgirl in the 1980s growing up in the country, I'd pore over the real estate pages of Melbourne's The Age newspaper every Saturday. It was long before the days of real estate websites, which is a good thing, as my schoolwork may have suffered!
The first time I renovated a house was about 25 years ago. And I remember swearing I'd never do it again. I was working full-time and spending every spare moment sanding, painting, and doing any other jobs possible to avoid paying someone else. The end of the weekend would come around, and despite feeling exhausted, I knew I had to go to work in the morning. Ultimately, it was worth it (it almost always is), and it certainly wasn't the last house I renovated!
I was in the middle of a renovation when an opportunity arose to buy a long-established retail business in Hobart specialising in renovation products. I was so excited by the prospect that I signed the sale contract within days. A couple of months later, having taken over the business, I was on a very steep learning curve! It was overwhelming; there was so much to learn about hardware, lighting, paint finishes, fireplaces, bathroom fittings, and tapware. Not to mention learning how to run a retail store. Fortunately, after 15 years, I know quite a lot about renovation products! In that time, I've been fortunate to develop close relationships with many trusted suppliers. As a result, I can now offer a curated collection of high-quality, hand-picked products at The Renovation Shop that are available online and through our showroom in Kingston, ACT.
I hope you enjoy exploring our collection of quality architectural hardware, beautiful lighting fittings, Italian tapware, and handmade English fireclay sinks. I look forward to helping you make your home a more beautiful one!
