A door knocker adds character to your front door and, importantly, provides a way for guests to let you know they're there! Our range of brass door knockers includes Victorian, Federation, Art Deco, traditional Lion and more modern door knockers. Available in finishes including classic polished brass, brushed brass, antique brass, antique copper, polished chrome, rumbled nickel, satin chrome and matt black, you'll find a design you're sure to love.
Your front door is often the first thing visitors notice. No doubt you'd like to create a good impression when they arrive. A warm, inviting entrance with a door that features a brass knocker in a style that suits your house is a great way to achieve that.
Would a traditional style be best, or a modern style door knocker?
It depends on the style of your door. On a traditional Victorian 4-panel door, for example, the knocker should be placed on the centre vertical rail somewhere around 1500 mm from the bottom of the door so it's a comfortable height for most people to use.
Not all doors are suited to a door knocker, or you may be limited in terms of the size you can fit. For example, if you have a door with heavy bolection mouldings, you may only be able to fit a narrow knocker. Always check the dimensions of the door knocker in the description to ensure you have adequate space on your door.
Some very old houses had door knockers made from iron rather than brass. Just bear in mind that iron rusts when it's subject to moisture, so if your door is exposed to the weather, a door knocker made from brass is likely to be a better choice.
Our brass door knockers are available in a variety of finishes, including polished brass, antique brass, antique copper, satin chrome, rumbled nickel, and unlacquered polished brass. Our iron door knockers come in a polished metal or matt black finish. Just remember to match the finish to your other door furniture, so if you have a polished brass door knob, it will be best to have a polished brass door knocker rather than an antique brass one.
If you have an old door, you may need to consider what existing door furniture is on it (if you're not replacing everything). Obviously, if you have a new door, you don't need to worry!
